Shoreham members were competing in ten of the 120 boats entered in the Salcombe YC Merlin week, and were supported by a wonderful shore crew including the Chaplin family who ensured we were all fed and watered at their annual fish-pie evening.
Bathed in sunshine for the duration, and some testing conditions, Alex and Taxi narrowly missed out on first overall, but counted two race wins and a string of podium positions, Alex was also the first of three Warren boats which ensured they won the family prize.
Another Warren with a race win was William and Mark who never relinquished their lead when the fleet were sent out to sea – proving their Shoreham practicing hadn’t gone to waste, and they finished tenth overall and won the over 45 (but under 55) trophy.
Sophie and Mary missed out on a close finish to take a second in one race and finished 22nd, winning the trophy for first lady helm. Also in the top 30 were Ian Dobson and Rob Allen, new to the fleet this year.
