When and where did you learn to sail? At Calshot activity centre in Southampton in 1982 and then a sailing club on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts in the mid 80s.
What do you sail now and why? Hobie Cat 16 – because it’s exhilarating. When I moved to Brighton in 2003, I found myself chatting to a member at a cat club (Brighton Sailing Club)
How long have you been a member at Shoreham and what do you like best about sailing here? Possibly since around 2011/2012. Love the clubhouse and the grounds around it which my son used to enjoy calling the boat garden when little.
What is your role at Shoreham SC and what made you want to do it? Treasurer/Trustee. Allows me to contribute using skills I’ve gained professionally, and love what the club has been doing with youth sailing – both at the Improver sessions and also through its collaboration with the Scouts and the Adur Sailing Club based here.
What are your sailing plans this season – whether it’s participating, helping out or organising? I’m sailing from Plymouth to South Brittany and back in a Swan 44 in June, hope to sail as a crew in races on the Solent on an XOD, and want to go out on the Hobie Cat 16 with Rob Donaldson, my amazing sailing partner, and also Justine and Jasper (both members at Adur Sailing Ckub)
Is there anything else you want to add? Calling all members – please volunteer to help out on Improver Saturdays, even to simply take out an Improver on your or a club boat. It is a family friendly day and the club benefits enormously from its members helping out on this day.
