Club safety boat training – Saturday 9 April

Kevin Headon and his team will be holding a club safety boat training session at the clubhouse on Saturday 9 April from 9:30 am until approximately 4:0pm. This will involve  classroom  and practical basic training in the club safety boats on the water.

The course aims to provide some basic training for safety boat crews and potential safety boat skippers, to improve their knowledge and practical skills or simply get a refresher course in safety boat operations at Shoreham Sailing Club.

The course includes a series of workshops;

  • Basic boat handling,
  • Picking someone out of the water / MOB
  • Righting a capsized dinghy
  • Righting an inverted dinghy
  • Mark laying
  • Launching & recovery
  • Driving Sentinel
  • Righting a capsized Cat

We also have shore based sessions on all the following:

  • Pre start checks
  • Club procedures
  • Working with an OOD
  • Use of VHF
  • Risks  & bylaws Shoreham harbour

Depending on skill sets of those attending we may run only some of these sessions.
