Battle of the Beaches

Barts Bash on Sunday 18th September was the culmination of three weekends of shared racing with Lancing sailing club.

Over the three weekends, there were 73 boats entered with Lancing providing the bulk of these, however it was Shoreham Sailing Club’s Alan Warren, crewed by grandson William Carroll who won the Battle of the Beaches in their Merlin Rocket, followed by the RS700 of Lancing’s Matt Carter and in third the Laser Radial of Jimmy Carter, also from Lancing.

The Barts Bash win went to Bill and Lisa Whitney in their Wayfarer (Shoreham SC), followed by the RS500 of Pete and Karen Matthews (Lancing SC) and in third Aland Warren and Bill Carroll in their Merlin (Shoreham SC).

Racing on two weekends was run from the Shoreham SC committee boat with each club providing safety cover, and Lancing ran it from their club house for the Barts Bash weekend. This was the second time of trying some shared racing with our nearest dinghy club, and the weather in 2016 proved a lot kinder than the previous year and the full series was sailed.
