A busy weekend for Shoreham SC

It was a busy weekend for Shoreham SC which started on Friday, when two Ladies teams were invited to a Sussex YC match racing event run from their Southwick base in Sonars. The event is run by the Sussex Youth team to raise funds for their racing this season, and a really wonderful evening was had by all, particularly club members Toni Wright, Louise Carr and Helen Hilditch who won the event (pictured right).

Saturday it was the turn of the Shoreham Youth racers to hit the water, and this week they were all crewing in Merlin Rockets to experience the thrills and (in some cases) spills of fleet racing in big(ger) boats. Without exception, everyone had a good time, sailing in glorious winds on a windward/leward course set up by event organiser Gareth Griffiths.

Sundays club racing was a more sedate affair, but with visiting Merlin Rockets and a National 12 to boost the home fleet, two races were managed in a fickle breeze thanks to race officer Nick Le Mare, ably assisted by Mark Sandel and some excellent safety crews (including Rob Rattray who took the fantastic photos below). The Adur SC were also on the water with a full complement of youngsters enjoying the waters off the club.

All this activity and smiling faces made Shoreham SC a really lovely place to be so thanks to everyone who was involved in all the above, whether on the shore or water.

At the time of writing we’re not sure how our travelling Wayfarers did at their National championships, but Bill Whitney and John Shelton were in fourth overall going into the last day…
