Our 2025 racing season is set to be a busy one kicking off with the Spring series on Sunday 23 March. The year includes the usual club series’, Battle of the Beaches, open events for members and visitors and high profile national events.
The big change to club racing this year is that the start times are at either 1100hrs or 1300hrs. This change is the result of a poll that was sent out to members in November. The proposal was put forward to limit low tide launch and recovery, take advantage of sea breezes and encourage greater participation. With 89% of members saying that they would race in the afternoons the committee have amended start times according and split the series’ into mornings and afternoons.
Bank holiday Mondays have been a bit hit and miss with attendances so we are splitting them out of their respective series’ and each will be a standalone event with its own trophy. The race format is to be confirmed but will vary from what we are used and may include more or less races, different course and/or a pursuit race. Further info will follow.
The Easter Cup, Festival of the Sea and Cooler series are all open events so be sure to invite your friends down for the weekend to enjoy the best of what sailing from Shoreham has to offer. For those new to the club, these events are;
- The Easter Cup – raced on the Sunday and Monday of Easter weekend (20 and 21st April).
- The Festival of the Sea – run in conjunction with Sussex Yacht Club who co-ordinate the yacht racing while Shoreham SC run the dinghy racing. It is open to visitors and this year there will be separate starts for the Scorpion and National 12 fleets.
- The Cooler series – run over five weekends in November and is the last chance for a bit of Shoreham sea sailing before winter arrives.
Battle of the Beaches will again be run over three weekends and raced against Lancing Sailing Club. Two of the weekends are run by Shoreham SC, with the third run by Lancing SC. Racing takes place half way between the two clubs off Beach Green. New to the calendar for 2025 is a pursuit race and BBQ at Lancing Sailing club on Saturday 13th September . Further info to follow.
The major events that we are running as a club are;
- 26 – 27 July – Merlin Rocket open meeting
- 4 – 7 September – Contender and Wayfarer National Championships
- 11 – 12 October – Topper Super South
These are high profile events for which we are always in need of extra volunteers – they are also fun events to get involved in whether on the shore or on the water.
So, as you can see it’s a busy year – and thats just the racing!
